On Wednesday, India and Oman signed a deal that will allow them to work together in new areas of defense, such as buying military gear. The MoU was made official at a meeting of the joint military cooperation committee (JMCC) between India and Oman in Muscat.

During the talks, both sides looked at their defense cooperation in detail and talked about ways to make it stronger in line with their shared strategy goals.

At the meeting, both sides talked a lot about how they might be able to work together in the defense industry sector. Defense Secretary Giridhar Aramane was in charge of the Indian group at the talks.

It is said that the talks also covered the overall situation in West Asia, such as security worries caused by Houthi militants’ attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea.

The defense ministry said, “Both sides looked over and appreciated the strong defense cooperation between India and Oman.”

It said that the meeting covered a lot of new areas where the two armies could work together, including oceanography, shipbuilding, joint exercises, information sharing, and training. These areas would help the militaries of both countries trust each other and work together better.

“They also talked about issues of interest to both of them in the region and around the world.” “Both sides talked about effective and doable ways to strengthen their defense cooperation, with a focus on working together in the defense industries,” the ministry said in a statement.

The two countries also signed an MoU about buying defense supplies and weapons. This would make it possible for the defense communities to work together in new areas.

The MoU was signed more than a month after “A Partnership for the Future,” a joint vision statement between India and Oman, was made public.

When Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik of Oman came to India in December, the vision paper was signed off on.

In Muscat, Aramane also met with Mohammed Bin Naseer Bin Ali Al Zaabi, who is the secretary general of the Omanese Defense Ministry.

“During the talks, Giridhar Aramane highlighted the potential of the domestic defence industry with capacity, capability and looked forward to a fruitful partnership with the armed forces of Oman,” the defense minister stated.

It said that the Omanese side had faith in the Indian defense industry’s abilities.

Aramane also asked the secretary general of Oman and his group to come to India to see how strong the defense industry is, especially in the maritime and aerospace areas.

The ministry said that defense cooperation has become an important part of India’s strategic relationship with Oman, making it one of its closest defense partners in the Gulf.

“The two countries are committed to work under the vision of strategic partnership,” it stated.
