On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah looked at how the security grid was working and the general security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He told the police to step up their efforts to fight terrorism and told them they needed to get rid of the whole terror ecosystem.
The Home Minister went over the area dominance plan of security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to get rid of the danger of terrorism for almost two and a half hours.
“While reviewing the functioning of the security grid and overall security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir, Shah instructed to strengthen the counter-terrorism operations and need for complete elimination of the terror eco-system,” the Ministry of Home Affairs stated in a statement.
The Home Minister also told the security forces to “properly deploy in vulnerable areas” and said again that the government will continue to take a “zero-tolerance approach against terrorism” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah did say, though, that “all proper steps should be taken when dealing with counter-terror operations.”
The Home Minister stressed how important it was to make the local information network even stronger.
He also thanked the security forces and the government of the Union Territory for their work in reducing terror-related events and infiltration and making the law and order situation better.
Ajit Doval is the National Security Advisor and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Secretary Manoj Sinha, Chief of Army Staff, Director IB, Heads of CAPFs, Chief Secretary, and DGP of Jammu and Kashmir all showed up to the meeting.
The meeting took place just a few days after four troops were killed and three were hurt in a shootout that began when terrorists opened fire on two army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri’s Poonch region at 3:45 p.m. on December 21, 2018.
Also in November of last year, five soldiers, two of them captains, were killed when the Army and its special forces started an anti-terror operation in Kalakote in Rajouri.
Five soldiers were killed in two attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch area in April and May 2023. Between 2003 and 2021, this area was mostly free of terrorists. After that, there were a lot of encounters.
During efforts against terrorism in the area in 2021 and 2022, more than 35 soldiers were killed in action.
Pir Panjal includes Rajouri district, Poonch district, and parts of Reasi district. In the last few years, there has been an increase in militancy in the area, and sources in the security wing say that several Army troops have died after being ambushed by militants.
On January 13, 2018, the Home Minister led a similar high-level meeting to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that all security agencies are fighting a decisive battle against terrorism in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of “zero tolerance” for terrorism.
He also said that the security system would be strengthened all the way around so that terrorists’ support and information networks would be fully destroyed.
The Minister also held a meeting to talk about the security situation in the Union Territory in the national capital on April 13, 2018. During the meeting, he went over how the security grid works and other security-related issues. He also said again that the government of India is committed to zero tolerance against terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
