India-UAE Joint Military Exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ Kicks Off In Rajasthan

In a formal release, the Ministry of Defense said that the first India-UAE Joint Military Exercise, called “Desert Cyclone,” began on Tuesday (January 2) in Mahajan, Rajasthan. It will last for two weeks, from January 2 to January 15.
Forty-five people from the Zayed First Brigade from the UAE have arrived in India for the drill. At the same time, the Indian Army has sent a Battalion from the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, which has 45 soldiers, to help with this joint effort.

There are men from the Zayed First Brigade representing the UAE. The 45 people from the Indian Army are mostly being represented by a battalion from the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, the statement said.
According to the Ministry of Defense’s formal statement, the main goal is to improve interoperability in unconventional operations, especially Fighting in Built-Up Areas (FIBUA), that take place in desert and semi-desert areas. Chapter VII of the UN Charter on Peacekeeping Operations calls for this kind of teamwork. The goal is to improve cooperation and mutual understanding during peacekeeping operations.
“The Exercise aims to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations including Fighting in Built-Up Area (FIBUA) in desert/ semi-desert terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations,” said the statement.
The statement said that during “Desert Cyclone,” many drills have been carefully planned to improve combat skills. As part of these drills, a Joint Surveillance Center will be set up, as well as search and cordon operations, control of built-up areas, and operations from helicopters. It was also said that these kinds of activities are meant to improve military plans and make it easier for the armed forces of both countries to share the best ways to do things.
