The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is working on a technology transfer policy. Under this policy, the technology of successfully tested products is being transferred to Indian industries for mass production by signing a licensing agreement.
Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Defense, said in a written answer to the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the DRDO has signed 670 agreements with businesses so far under this policy.
According to India’s Ministry of Defense, DRDO designs and creates products for the Indian military. After a product has been successfully tested and evaluated, its technology is given to Indian industries so that they can make it in large quantities.
This is done by signing a licensing agreement for transfer of technology. On August 19, 2019, the current DRDO policy for the transfer of technology went into effect.
In his answer, Bhatt said that DRDO gives private companies both defense and dual-use technologies. The DRDO and the industry signed a licensing agreement for the transfer of technology. The agreement says that the industry can’t give or sell the technology it got from the DRDO to anyone else without the DRDO’s written permission first.
Also, the licensing agreement requires the industry to take all necessary steps to make sure that the technology is not passed on, shared, or given access to anyone other than their directors, officers, and employees, as well as their subcontractors, who need to know about it in order to carry out the licensing agreement or make the product.
