CDS Chauhan Highlights China’s Ongoing PLA Deployment As A Challenge For India’s Security

Story Highlights
  • The war in Europe, the fact that PLA is still stationed in large numbers along our northern borders, and the political and economic turmoil in our immediate area all pose different challenges to the Indian military
  • Chauhan said that fixing the border problems is a different thing and that for now, everyone should go back to their claim lines and keep things as they are.

General Anil Chauhan, India’s Chief of Defense Staff, said on Tuesday that it is a “challenge” that China keeps putting a lot of PLA troops along India’s northern borders.

Chauhan also said that the military is committed to keeping the country’s claims on the LoC valid.

During his speech at the National Defence Academy’s 144th course’s graduation parade in Pune, he also said that the armed forces are committed to doing their part to keep peace and stability not only in our local neighborhood but also in the wider area.

“The number of PLA troops on the northern borders isn’t going up every day; it’s the same as it was in 2020.” So there is a problem, and the military is taking all kinds of steps to make sure nothing bad happens,” the CDS said.

“We have been able to get back to all places except Demchok and Depsang. Talks are going on. “We hope that will happen, and we think it will,” he said.

“The whole point of this is that we should be able to keep the claim line’s validity. “In 2020, we should be able to patrol the same areas that we did before this crisis,” he said.

In June 2020, forces from India and China fought in the Galwan valley. People on both sides were hurt.

“We live in a time when global security is not at its best and the geopolitical order of the world is in a state of change. “The war in Europe, the fact that the PLA is still stationed in large numbers along our northern borders, and the political and economic turmoil in our immediate area all pose different challenges to the Indian military,” Chauhan said.

He also said that the “armed forces are committed to maintaining the legitimacy of our claims on the Line of Control (LoC) and playing a positive role in keeping peace and stability not only in our immediate neighborhood but also in the wider area.”

Chauhan said that fixing the border problems is a different thing and that for now, everyone should go back to their claim lines and keep things as they are.
