Astra Microwave Secures ₹2,205.23 Crore HAL Contract for Uttam Radar AAAU Units

Astra Microwave Products Limited has signed a major milestone in its defence business after securing a ₹2,205.23 crore contract from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the supply of critical assemblies required for the indigenous Uttam Radar programme. The contract, scheduled for execution over the next five years, is expected to significantly strengthen the company’s role in India’s rapidly expanding defence manufacturing ecosystem.

As part of the agreement, Astra Microwave will manufacture and deliver 122 Advanced Array Assembly Units (AAAU) along with 121 Interface Frames. These assemblies form an integral part of the Uttam Radar architecture and are intended to support the production and integration of the indigenous radar system for future combat aircraft.

The award reflects the growing reliance on Indian private-sector companies for high-value defence projects. By partnering with Astra Microwave for the manufacture of sophisticated radar assemblies, HAL continues to expand domestic participation in strategic aerospace programmes while supporting the government’s vision of self-reliance in defence technology.

Astra Microwave has built extensive expertise in microwave, radio frequency (RF) and defence electronics, supplying advanced solutions for a range of military and aerospace platforms. The latest contract not only expands the company’s defence portfolio but also strengthens its long-term production pipeline with a high-value programme of national importance.

The Uttam Radar programme is one of India’s flagship indigenous sensor development initiatives and is expected to play a key role in modernising airborne surveillance capabilities. Increased localisation of critical assemblies is expected to improve production efficiency, strengthen supply-chain resilience and reduce dependence on overseas suppliers for advanced radar technologies.
