Sepoy D. Navaneetha Krishnan, a soldier from Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district, saved a girl from drowning in a ditch in Punjab. On Wednesday, Army Chief Manoj Pande gave him a medal of honor for his bravery.

“General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, praised and honored Sepoy Navaneetha Krishnan D for his brave and selfless act of saving a girl’s life. Sepoy Navaneetha jumped into the fast-moving Bhakra Canal near Patiala, Punjab, on June 16 to save a girl who was drowning. “He saved her life,” the Additional Director of General of Public Information, IHQ, Ministry of Defence (Army) wrote on Twitter.

The Defense Department, it was written that around 3 p.m. on June 16, Sepoy Navaneetha Krishnan, who was in the back of a car going from Patiala to Sangrur, saw a lot of people on the road because a girl was almost swept away by the fast current of the Bhakra Canal.

The statement said that the army jawan ran about 100 meters downstream, jumped into the canal, and stopped the teenager from being carried away by the water. It was written that Krishnan did cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the girl because he was trained in basic first aid. This saved the girl’s life.

In a video message in Tamil, the soldier said he was so happy to get the award from the Army Chief and that he was giving it to his parents because they had worked so hard to help him get an education and get into the Army.

On December 11, 2018, Navaneethan signed up to be part of the Army Medical Corps. He is at a field hospital in Patiala, Punjab, at the moment.
