Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. Ltd. has added another major Airbus programme to its growing aerospace manufacturing portfolio, with the company set to produce fuselage skins for the A320 family in India.
The agreement covers structural panels for the rear sections of Airbus commercial aircraft, specifically Sections 18 and 19. Production will take place at Mahindra Aerostructures’ Bengaluru facility, after which the components will be delivered to Airbus in Augsburg, Germany, for integration into the aircraft production process.
The new programme will support Airbus A320neo and A321XLR aircraft and represents a further expansion of the manufacturing relationship between the European aircraft maker and the Mahindra Group company. The contract is planned as a multi-year arrangement, with deliveries expected to commence in 2028.
Mahindra Aerostructures will produce eight fuselage skins associated with Section 18 and three for Section 19. The company is also preparing additional manufacturing infrastructure to handle the programme, including capabilities linked to chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch forming.
Work on the industrialisation of the programme has already started. This includes tooling development, process planning, qualification work and inspection arrangements needed before series production begins.
The contract is particularly significant for Mahindra Aerostructures because fuselage skin manufacturing involves large aircraft structures and specialised production processes. The company said the latest programme forms part of its broader effort to build greater capability for manufacturing larger aerostructural assemblies within India.
The Airbus agreement also builds on a wider industrial relationship between the two companies. Mahindra Aerostructures has been involved in Airbus programmes covering aircraft components and assemblies and has also secured work related to the H125 and H130 helicopter fuselages.
For India’s aerospace sector, the programme adds another example of a major global aircraft manufacturer sourcing increasingly complex structures from the country. Manufacturing the A320 family components in Bengaluru could contribute to the development of higher-end aerospace capabilities, supplier expertise and specialised production infrastructure.
Airbus has been steadily expanding its industrial and supply-chain engagement in India, while Indian aerospace manufacturers have been increasing their participation in international aircraft programmes. The Mahindra-Aerostructures contract reflects this broader shift, with Indian facilities taking on more technically demanding work for global aviation programmes.
With production preparations now underway and deliveries scheduled for 2028, the programme is expected to become another important milestone in Mahindra Aerostructures’ development as a supplier of complex aircraft structures to the international aerospace industry.
