Jaishankar Meets Putin in Moscow, Strengthening India-Russia Strategic Partnership

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a high-level meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, underlining the importance New Delhi continues to attach to its longstanding partnership with Moscow. The engagement comes as India and Russia seek to maintain strong political communication while expanding cooperation in several areas of mutual interest.

During his visit, Jaishankar conveyed a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Putin. The interaction provided an opportunity to review the progress of bilateral relations and discuss areas where cooperation between the two countries can be further strengthened.

Economic engagement remains an important component of the relationship. India and Russia have been working to expand bilateral trade and improve cooperation in sectors including energy, fertilisers, technology and investment. Jaishankar’s Moscow programme also included participation in the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation. The commission provides a platform for officials from both countries to assess ongoing projects and explore new avenues for bilateral collaboration.

Beyond economic and defence matters, India and Russia maintain cooperation in areas such as space, science and technology, energy and cultural exchanges. Regular diplomatic engagement remains important for ensuring that the partnership continues to adapt to changing international circumstances.

The meeting between Jaishankar and Putin therefore carries wider significance for the India-Russia relationship. It demonstrates that high-level communication between New Delhi and Moscow remains active and that both sides are focused on preserving the strategic character of their partnership while identifying new areas for cooperation.
