The Indian Navy’s top commanders will meet on Tuesday to review the security situation in and around the country, amidst growing regional instability.
The regime change in Bangladesh, as well as the growing influence of extremist radical groups, is one of the emerging security concerns that will be discussed at the meeting. Another major source of concern is China’s increasing military involvement and support for Pakistan.
According to defence officials, the meeting will take place in the new Naval Headquarters in Delhi beginning September 17 and lasting four days. This will be the first conference since Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took over as Chief of Naval Staff in April of this year.
The announcement follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent call to the defence forces to be prepared for the unexpected during the Joint Commanders’ Conference in Lucknow.
The creation of new theatre commands will also be discussed during the meeting.
The Admiral has directed all commanders to maintain high operational readiness at all times.
