ISRO’s Milestone: Launching NVS-01, India’s Next-Generation Navigational Satellite

Scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the NVS- 01 next-generation guidance satellite on Monday. They used the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle or GSLV Mk-II from the second launch pad at the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

With this trip, the space agency wants to make sure that the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) services stay up and running. ISRO has set up a regional navigation satellite system called Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) to meet the country’s needs in terms of positioning, guidance, and time.

Here are the 5 points of the NVS – 01 satellite:

1. On its 15th flight, the 51.7 m tall Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle launched the 2,232 kg navigation satellite NVS-01.

2. The satellite would provide real-time location and timing services over India and an area about 1,500 km around the mainland.

3.NVS-01 is the first of India’s second-generation NavIC satellites, which have better features like navigation on land, in the air, and at sea, precise farmland, location-based services on mobile devices, and marine fisheries.

4. ISRO said that the signals from NavIC are made to give users a location that is accurate to within 20 meters and a time that is accurate to within 50 nanoseconds.

This is the sixth mission that the GSLV with its own cryogenic stage has been used for. ISRO said that NVS-01 should be able to do its job for more than 12 years.
