PoJK Protesters Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum to Islamabad Over Governance Crisis

Protest groups in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) have given Pakistan’s federal government a 48-hour deadline, warning of a major protest action on July 9 if their demands remain unaddressed. The announcement comes amid growing public dissatisfaction over governance, economic challenges, and administrative shortcomings in the region.
The latest developments highlight increasing unrest across PoJK, where civil society organisations and local residents have been voicing concerns over inflation, lack of basic services, and what they describe as ineffective governance. Organisers have indicated that the planned mobilisation could be one of the largest demonstrations in recent months.
PoJK has witnessed recurring waves of protests over the years, with citizens demanding greater accountability, improved infrastructure, and better economic opportunities. While many demonstrations have centred on local governance issues, they have also reflected wider concerns about the region’s political and administrative management.
India continues to maintain its long-standing position that the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, including Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, is an integral part of India. Following the constitutional changes of 2019, New Delhi has reiterated that matters relating to Jammu and Kashmir should be addressed in accordance with its established policy and diplomatic framework.
From a security standpoint, India closely monitors developments along the Line of Control (LoC). The Indian Armed Forces remain operationally prepared to safeguard the border, while the Northern Command continues to oversee military deployments and maintain vigilance across the region to ensure stability and respond to any security contingencies.
Although the protests are driven primarily by domestic issues within Pakistan-administered territory, prolonged unrest could have broader implications for regional stability. Indian security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the evolving situation while maintaining a strong defensive posture along the border.
With the July 9 deadline approaching, attention will remain focused on Islamabad’s response to the protesters’ demands and whether dialogue or administrative measures can prevent further escalation in the region.
