Indian Army Plans To Bolster Troop Presence In J-K’s Poonch-Rajouri Sector

Story Highlights
  • The Indian Army has been in a military standoff with China. They have tried many times to calm things down.
  • In the Kashmir valley, the security forces have also been able to cut down on terrorist activities.

The Indian Army is planning to send more troops to the Poonch-Rajouri sector to stop Pakistani terrorists from operating there, sources said on Monday. This is because attacks on Indian troops have been on the rise lately.

“A few months ago, an extra formation the size of a brigade was moved into the area.” Another brigade and a few other units are planned to go there to help with operations against terrorism.

The move should strengthen the area’s anti-terrorist grid and boost the confidence of the people who live there.

The local police have also made their intelligence network stronger, and they plan to do more to make it even stronger.

A Staff Court of Inquiry is also being held by the Army against the Brigadier in charge of the 13th Sector Rashtriya Rifles for the repeated operational lapses that have cost the Army a lot of ground troops.

A Major General-level officer is in charge of the Staff Court of Inquiry. This officer is also responsible for the deaths of three civilians who were arrested by 48 RR troops right after the Dera ki Gali terror attack, in which four soldiers were killed and their bodies were mutilated.

Gen. Manoj Pande, the head of the Indian Army, also visited the Poonch-Rajouri sector today. He is planning to go back this week with top officials from the defense ministry.

During the visit, the top commanders told him about the current operations and what needs to be done in the next few days to effectively target terrorists.

Many people say that the Pakistan Army and its intelligence services want to start terrorism again in the Poonch Rajouri sector so that the Indian Army will have to reduce the number of troops it has on the border with China in the north.

For the past three years, the Indian Army has been in a military standoff with China. They have tried many times to calm things down.

When China attacked in 2020, the Indian Army put more attention on the northern and eastern fronts.

In the Kashmir valley, the security forces have also been able to cut down on terrorist activities.
