Indian Army Successfully Conducts Counter-Drone Exercise ‘Vayu Samanvay-II’
Exercise in the desert sector demonstrates the Army’s growing focus on drone warfare and indigenous technology integration

The Indian Army has successfully conducted a large-scale drone and counter-drone exercise named ‘Vayu Samanvay-II’ in the desert sector under the Southern Command, aimed at strengthening its preparedness for modern, technology-driven warfare. The two-day exercise was held from October 28 to 29, 2025, and involved a range of aerial platforms, surveillance systems, and counter-drone technologies.
‘Vayu Samanvay-II’ was designed to validate the Army’s capability to operate in complex multi-domain environments, where drone and counter-drone operations play a critical role. The exercise tested the effectiveness of various indigenous systems developed under the “Make in India” initiative, reflecting the Army’s commitment to enhancing self-reliance in defence technologies.
Senior officers from the Southern Command supervised the exercise, which simulated real-world battlefield conditions. It focused on coordination between infantry, air defence, artillery, and electronic warfare units, ensuring seamless communication and synchronization during high-intensity operations involving unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
The Indian Army highlighted that drone warfare is increasingly shaping modern conflicts, making it vital to build integrated capabilities to both deploy and neutralize aerial threats. The exercise also assessed the Army’s response mechanism to potential drone intrusions along border areas and its ability to detect, jam, or neutralize hostile UAVs in real time.
Army officials emphasized that the insights from ‘Vayu Samanvay-II’ will guide the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and future procurement strategies for drone and counter-drone systems. The exercise underlines India’s focus on adopting cutting-edge surveillance, artificial intelligence, and automation in the defence sector.
By successfully executing this advanced training operation, the Indian Army reaffirmed its resolve to stay ahead of evolving aerial threats and to strengthen its defensive and offensive drone capabilities – marking another step forward in India’s journey toward self-reliant, next-generation warfare readiness.
