Indian-American Community Makes History With Guinness World Record in New Jersey

The Indian-American community in New Jersey has achieved a Guinness World Record with a large-scale flagpole display organised as part of celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The record-setting programme was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany and was organised by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in New York and with support from technology company Zoho.
The centrepiece of the event was a unique arrangement of flagpoles forming the number “250”, representing the United States’ milestone anniversary. More than 1,300 American flags were reportedly placed around Indian Tricolours as part of the record-setting display.
Several prominent figures attended the programme, including New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell, US Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, Consul General of India in New York Binay Srikant Pradhan and Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai. Members of the Indian-American community also participated in large numbers.
The event highlighted the strong people-to-people relationship between India and the United States. It also showcased the role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening cultural and social connections between the two countries.
The Consulate General of India in New York recognised FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya and FIA President Sreekanth Akkapalli for their efforts in organising the initiative. Zoho was also acknowledged for supporting the record-setting event.
The achievement carries special significance in 2026, when India is celebrating 80 years of independence and the United States is commemorating 250 years of independence. Bringing the two milestones together, the New Jersey event provided a prominent platform for the Indian-American community to celebrate its cultural heritage and its connection with the United States.
The Guinness World Record was part of wider Independence Day celebrations across the New York tri-state region, which included flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes.
The record-setting display ultimately served as a symbol of community unity and the enduring relationship between India and the United States, while highlighting the growing contribution of Indian-Americans to American society.
