Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi Leads Western Naval Command

Vice Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi took over as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command on Tuesday. He replaced Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, who retired from the military after 40 years of service. The ceremony took place at a naval helicopter base in Mumbai called INS Shikra.

Tripathi was the head of personnel at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) before he took charge of the most important command in Mumbai. He went to Sainik School in Rewa and the National Defense Academy in Khadakwasla. On July 1, 1985, he was given a commission in the Indian Navy.

The statement said that the admiral is an expert in communication and electronic warfare. He has worked as a signal communication officer and an electronic warfare officer on frontline warships. Later, he was the executive officer and principal warfare officer on the guided missile destroyer INS Mumbai.

Tripathi has been in charge of the warships Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul. He has also held a number of important operational and staff positions, such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet at Mumbai, director of naval operations, principal director of network-centric operations, and principal director, naval plans at New Delhi. He is also the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Policy and Plans and the Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet.

After taking over the Western Naval Command, which is also known as the “sword arm” of the navy, the admiral put a wreath at the Gaurav Stambh, the Victory at Sea Memorial, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, to honour those who gave their lives for their country.

When the officer was given the rank of vice admiral in June 2019, he was put in charge of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. From July 2020 to May 2021, he was also the director general of naval operations. The navy said that in this role, he made sure that the navy stayed a combat-ready, cohesive, and credible force that was ready to deal with a wide range of complex security problems despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

He went to the elite Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, New Zealand, and also went to the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, for the Naval Higher Command Course and the Naval Command College.
