Pakistan Advances Indigenous Missile Programme With Successful Fa’az Air-to-Air Missile Test

Pakistan has successfully completed the maiden flight test of its indigenously developed Fa’az air-to-air missile, marking a new milestone in the country’s efforts to expand its domestic missile development capabilities. The test was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on November 3, 2026.

According to the Pakistani military, the Fa’az missile incorporates an advanced terminal guidance system designed to engage aerial targets at extended ranges. The successful trial is expected to support the Pakistan Air Force’s efforts to strengthen its airborne weapons capabilities and improve operational flexibility.

Senior military officers, scientists and engineers associated with the missile’s development witnessed the flight test. Following the announcement, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and the service chiefs congratulated the teams involved in the programme.

The Fa’az missile development programme is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to increase domestic defence production and reduce reliance on foreign weapons suppliers. Its development could provide the Pakistan Air Force with greater flexibility in weapons procurement, maintenance and future technological upgrades.

The missile family had previously attracted attention at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul in 2023, where configurations associated with the Fa’az programme were displayed. These included the Fa’az-RF, featuring active radar guidance, and the Fa’az-IIR, associated with imaging infrared guidance technology.

The missile’s potential integration with Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft has also drawn interest. However, the military has not released complete details about the launch platform used during the latest trial or confirmed the operational integration status.

Specific performance information, including maximum range, speed, engagement envelope and production timeline, has not been officially disclosed following the flight test.

The successful trial represents progress in Pakistan’s indigenous aerospace weapons programme. Further testing, technical evaluation and aircraft integration will determine the missile’s future operational role within the Pakistan Air Force.
