Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has rejected reports of a fresh Chinese military incursion in the state’s Taksing sector, describing the claims as unverified and assuring that the Indian Army remains responsible for safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity along the sensitive frontier.
The controversy emerged after reports and videos circulated claiming that Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel had entered areas near Taksing in Upper Subansiri district, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The allegations generated concern because of the strategic importance of the region and its proximity to the India-China border.
Khandu said the claims needed to be verified on the ground and indicated that he would seek inputs from the Indian Army as well as local organisations and residents. His remarks came as authorities sought to establish whether the material circulating online represented an actual border incident or was being misinterpreted.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in the Army’s deployment in the region, stressing that India’s territory is being effectively protected. The statement is significant because Taksing lies in a remote and strategically sensitive part of Arunachal Pradesh, where maintaining reliable information about developments along the LAC is particularly important.
The reports have emerged against the backdrop of continuing India-China tensions and competing territorial claims over Arunachal Pradesh. China refers to the region as “Zangnan” and continues to claim it as part of its territory, while India firmly maintains that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country.
For India, the northeastern frontier has remained a major focus of defence preparedness. Infrastructure development, improved connectivity and stronger military deployment have been pursued across border areas to improve surveillance and the movement of personnel and equipment.
The latest episode also highlights the importance of relying on verified information when reports of activity along the LAC emerge. While allegations of an alleged Chinese presence in the Taksing area have circulated, there is currently no independently confirmed evidence establishing that a fresh Chinese incursion has taken place.
Khandu’s decision to seek clarification from the Army and local stakeholders is expected to help establish the facts on the ground. Until such verification is completed, the reported Chinese incursion remains an allegation rather than a confirmed border development.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has meanwhile sought to reassure residents that India’s security apparatus remains alert in the region. The Indian Army’s assessment will be crucial in determining whether the reports reflect any actual change in the situation along the LAC near Taksing.
