Wang Yi, Jaishankar Affirm Partnership as India-China Border Stability Takes Centre Stage

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated that China views India as a partner rather than a competitor during bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in Manila, with both sides emphasising the importance of border stability in their relationship.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, reflected continued diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Beijing. Both leaders reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments, with border stability remaining a central theme of the discussions.

Jaishankar reiterated India’s position that peace and tranquillity in the border areas are essential for normal bilateral relations. He stressed that maintaining stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is fundamental to building trust and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

The External Affairs Minister also highlighted India’s economic concerns, calling for fair market access, a more balanced trade relationship and predictable supply chains. He noted that addressing these issues would contribute to a more stable and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi said China and India should regard each other as partners rather than competitors and as opportunities rather than threats. He emphasised that both countries should properly manage their differences, strengthen communication and expand practical cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining regular diplomatic dialogue and continuing discussions on issues affecting bilateral relations. They also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, reaffirming the value of communication in managing differences and exploring opportunities for cooperation.
