Deadly Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station: FIR Registered Under UAPA, Probe Underway
A powerful explosion near Red Fort Metro leaves several dead; Delhi Police treat the case as a possible terror act under UAPA.

A massive explosion rocked the area near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro station on Monday evening, killing several people and injuring many others. The Delhi Police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with charges of murder and attempt to murder, as investigations point toward a possible terror link.
According to police officials, the blast occurred around 6:50 pm when a car suddenly exploded near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro station. The explosion was so powerful that it damaged multiple vehicles and sparked panic in the congested Old Delhi locality. Eyewitnesses said flames quickly engulfed the car, while the shockwave shattered nearby shop windows.
Fire tenders and emergency teams rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after nearly an hour of effort. Initial reports suggest that at least eight people lost their lives, while over a dozen were injured. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, where some are said to be in critical condition.
Senior officers from Delhi Police’s Special Cell, along with National Investigation Agency (NIA) experts, reached the scene to collect forensic samples. CCTV footage from the metro premises and nearby roads is being reviewed to trace the movement of the suspect vehicle before the explosion. Sources said the car had entered a nearby parking area earlier in the day and left just minutes before the blast.
Given the sensitive location – Red Fort being a major national landmark and high-security zone – authorities have heightened security across central and northern Delhi. Security alerts have also been issued in neighboring Noida and Ghaziabad districts. Additional checkpoints have been established, and vehicle inspections are being intensified.
Officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered under UAPA, indicating the possibility of a deliberate act aimed at causing mass casualties. Police have not ruled out any angle, including sabotage or planned attack, and said all leads are being pursued.
Forensic experts are currently examining the car’s remains to determine whether explosives were planted manually or if there was a mechanical trigger. A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to coordinate between local police, anti-terror units, and intelligence agencies.
Authorities have urged the public not to spread unverified information on social media. Further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
