PM Modi Showcases India’s Defence Export Success, Sets Vision to Become Global Leader
During a Diwali address aboard INS Vikrant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s rapid rise in defence exports and reaffirmed his goal to make the nation a top arms supplier.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with Indian Navy personnel aboard INS Vikrant, where he emphasized India’s remarkable growth in defence exports and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to becoming a global hub for military manufacturing.
Addressing the crew, PM Modi noted that India’s defence export value has grown nearly thirty-fold in the past decade, transforming the country from a major importer to an emerging exporter of advanced defence systems. He credited the surge to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which has empowered domestic industries, private players, and start-ups to design and produce sophisticated technologies.
Highlighting India’s indigenous strength, the Prime Minister pointed to the successful production of BrahMos and Akash missile systems-now sought after by multiple nations-as proof of the country’s growing self-reliance and technical expertise in the defence sector.
He described INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, as a symbol of the country’s naval and industrial pride. Modi also reflected on the Navy’s decision to replace its colonial-era ensign with one inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, calling it a powerful reminder of India’s cultural and strategic independence.
“The world now looks at India not just as a market, but as a trusted defence partner,” the Prime Minister said, urging the armed forces and industry leaders to accelerate innovation and strengthen export partnerships.
PM Modi concluded his remarks by reaffirming his vision to position India among the top global defence exporters, stating that this goal aligns with the broader mission of building a secure, self-reliant, and globally respected India.
