India’s Tata Aerospace and Defence (TAD) showed off a 155 mm/52 calibre mounted gun system (MGS) for the Indian Army at the Aero India 2023 show, which is being held in Bangalore from February 13 to 17.

A spokesperson for TAD told Janes that the company created the MGS to meet the needs of the Indian Army under the Field Artillery Rationalisation Plan. The Indian Army wants at least 814 MGSs as part of the plan.

According to TAD, the MGS has a 155 mm/52 calibre gun mounted on a Tata 88 high-mobility vehicle (HMV). The gun has a 360° traverse angle and an elevation arc from -3° to +72°.

The gun’s range is 31 km with a “boat tail” projectile, 42 km with a “base-bleed” projectile, and 55 km with a “Very Long Artillery Projectile” (V-LAP) projectile. The gun can fire a maximum of six rounds per minute, or three rounds in 16 seconds. It can also fire two rounds per minute continuously.

The gun has a system that handles ammunition automatically, a magazine with three projectiles, and a crane for moving ammunition. It comes with systems such as an inertial navigation system, an electro-optical sight, and a muzzle velocity radar.
