Since the beginning of this month, the British Royal Air Force has been flying almost everyday with a C-17 Globemaster heavy load aircraft from Romania to an airbase in the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi, according to data from flight tracking websites.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, the flights were reportedly part of a mission to support Ukraine. The type of equipment being transported by the enormous RAF aircraft was not immediately apparent. Up to 77,000 kg of cargo can be transported on the Globemaster.
The flights were originally discovered by social media accounts utilising open-source intelligence, such as aircraft monitoring websites, via the RAF’s Akrotiri base on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The RAF’s Boeing C-17A Globemaster III with the call sign “ZZ173” was used for the missions.
No official statement has been made regarding these flights, which have been monitored since at least August 6, by authorities in Pakistan, Romania, or Britain. Tuesday’s flight from Cyprus to the Nur Khan airfield in Rawalpindi by the same Globamaster aircraft was tracked in Pakistani airspace.
The flight monitoring websites revealed that the RAF flights avoided Iran’s and Afghanistan’s airspace by flying through the airspace of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Oman before landing in Pakistan.
