Punjab Police Bust Alleged ISI-Backed Babbar Khalsa International Module, Seize 86-P Hand Grenade

Punjab Police have disrupted an alleged terror network associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with a joint operation resulting in the arrest of a suspected operative and the recovery of an 86-P hand grenade.

The operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence Jalandhar along with SBS Nagar Police as part of efforts to identify and dismantle terror networks operating with the support of handlers based outside India. Police said the action helped prevent the alleged module from carrying out its planned activities.

Investigators have found that the recovered hand grenade was allegedly obtained through a covert Dead Letter Box near Adampur in Jalandhar. The suspected operative is believed to have collected the explosive device on instructions received from foreign-based handlers. The development has prompted security agencies to examine the communication channels and logistical arrangements allegedly used to move material into the hands of local operatives.

The investigation is now being expanded to establish the complete structure of the suspected network. Police are working to identify other individuals who may have provided logistical or operational assistance and are also examining the links between the arrested suspect and the alleged overseas handlers.

An FIR has been registered at Sadar Nawanshahr Police Station in SBS Nagar under applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act. Further investigation is underway, with authorities focusing on tracing the wider network and determining whether additional members were involved.

The successful recovery of the grenade before it could allegedly be used underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing in countering emerging terror threats. The operation also reflects continued efforts by Punjab security agencies to disrupt attempts by foreign-based handlers to establish covert terror networks and facilitate attacks inside India.
