Pakistani Naval Vessel Collides With Indian Navy Unit, India Lodges Protest

India has formally protested to Pakistan following a collision between naval units of the two countries in the northern Arabian Sea. The incident took place on the evening of September 15, 2026, in international waters, involving a Pakistani naval vessel and an Indian Navy warship that was carrying out a routine surveillance mission. India said the incident did not result in any major damage.

According to information released by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Pakistani naval unit approached the Indian Navy vessel in a manner that India described as unacceptable and unprofessional. The collision subsequently prompted New Delhi to take up the matter through diplomatic channels.

On September 16, India summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi, Saad Ahmad Warraich, and conveyed a strong protest over the conduct of the Pakistani naval unit. New Delhi also asked Pakistan to ensure that its military units exercise due caution and follow applicable bilateral arrangements to avoid similar incidents.

The Indian government has also linked the incident to Article 10 of the April 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement concerning advance notification of military exercises, manoeuvres and troop movements. India stated that the conduct involved in the incident was in contravention of the provisions of that agreement.

Alongside the diplomatic action in New Delhi, India instructed its Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to raise the matter with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This means the issue is being addressed through official diplomatic channels on both sides.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the importance of safe navigation and adherence to established protocols when military vessels operate in close proximity at sea. While no major damage was reported, the formal protest indicates that India considers the circumstances surrounding the collision a matter requiring official clarification and caution.
