The Norwegian Armed Forces said on March 20 that they sent eight German-made Leopard 2 main battle tanks and four support vehicles to Ukraine.
The report says that Ukrainian tank crews are already being taught how to drive Leopards in Poland.
The military of Norway also wrote that money was set aside to buy ammunition and spare parts for the Leopard 2 tanks.
“It is important for the security of Norway and Europe that Russia doesn’t win with its aggression against Ukraine,” said Bjrn Arild Gram, the Norwegian Defense Minister.
Norway said on January 25 that it would send Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, but it didn’t say how many it would send. There are 36 Leopard 2 tanks in Norway’s army.
On March 10, the Norwegian government said it would also give Ukraine two Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-air Missile System (NASAMS) firing units during the spring.
In the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Norway gave Ukraine $300 million to help with its military.
Poland was the first country to give Ukraine the long-awaited Leopard battle tanks. It sent the first four tanks on February 24. Then, at the beginning of March, it sent ten more.
