MoD Approves Sukhoi’s New Artillery Gun And Long-Range Weapon

The Ministry of Defense’s highest decision-making body, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), has approved the “need to acquire” a new artillery gun, long-range weapons for Sukhoi 30 MKI jets, and marine diesel engines.

For defence equipment, the “need to buy” is called Acceptance of Necessity (AoN). It is the first step in the MoD’s process for buying things, and it gives the armed forces the go-ahead to make bids for buying things.

At a meeting led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh here on Thursday, the DAC approved the plans to buy things, the ministry said.

The DAC gave AoN for capital purchases worth more than Rs 70,500 crore. These purchases will fall under the category of “designed, developed, and made in India.”

The Navy’s proposals are worth more than Rs 56,000 crore, and they mostly include BrahMos missiles, Shakti Electronic Warfare systems, and maritime utility helicopters that are made in India.

By buying more BrahMos missile systems, the ability to strike from the sea and fight against ships will be improved.

The DAC gave the Advanced Light Helicopter MK-III from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited a green light for the Coast Guard. A set of sensors for keeping an eye on things will be on board.
