General Manoj Pande, the head of the Army, said on Friday that war has changed and that we need to be self-sufficient to keep supply lines running smoothly. He added, though, that land will still be a key factor in war.
When asked what lessons could be learned from the Russia-Ukraine war, the Army chief said, “Land will always be a key factor in war, especially for us since our borders are fought over. In our situation, the idea of victory will still be based on land.”
The head of the Indian Army was giving a speech in New Delhi at the India Today Conclave 2023. He was talking about the difficulties of new-generation warfare in the face of new threats and AI (AI).
The COAS said that the war between Russia and Ukraine has shown how important hard power is and that when national interests are at stake, countries will not be afraid to go to war. People no longer think that wars will be short and over quickly.
“From a business point of view, we should learn how important it is to depend on natural supply chains. Today, it is a multi-domain operation, and it is no longer just kinetic warfare. It also includes cyber, space, information, and battles of narratives “General Pande added.
He also said that, in terms of tactics, there are lessons to be learned from operations by small teams, “citizen warriors,” and the use of bigger platforms like drones versus smaller platforms. “It’s important for soldiers to have more than one skill,” the COAS said as one of the important lessons.
