In response to the explosions of explosive devices throughout Lebanon, Israel has initiated a “new phase” of the conflict.
Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant declared that Tel Aviv’s attention has shifted to the northern front in anticipation of the commencement of a “new phase of the war” hours after electronic devices, including hand-held radios utilised by the armed group Hezbollah, exploded in Lebanon.
“The resources and forces are being diverted, resulting in the centre of gravity shifting to the north.” Gallant, speaking to Israeli troops on Wednesday, stated, “We are at the beginning of a new phase in the war; it necessitates courage, determination, and perseverance.” This statement was reported by the Associated Press.
Nevertheless, Gallant refrained from directly commenting on the enigmatic explosions of electronic devices in Lebanon. Instead, he commended the security agencies and army of Israel, asserting that “the outcomes are truly remarkable.”
At least fourteen individuals have been killed and at least 300 others have been injured in Lebanon as a result of explosions that targeted walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah. The attack that occurred the day prior resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and the injury of over 2,800 others due to the detonation of pagers. Israel was implicated in the attack.
The attacks have been attributed to Israel by Hezbollah and the Lebanese government, with the former threatening a “fair punishment” for the explosions.
Israel has not yet claimed responsibility for either of the attacks; however, reports indicate that it may have inserted explosives into thousands of pagers that Hezbollah purchased.
The Israeli Ministry of Defence has yet to respond to the situation, with the exception of relocating the 98th Division, which was previously involved in operations in the Gaza Strip, to northern Israel. This action is in accordance with the cabinet’s determination to allocate the majority of the military’s assets to the region. The 36th Division, which has been stationed in northern Israel for several months, will be joined by the 98th Division, according to The Guardian.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have elected to deploy a restricted number of reserves in the northern region, which includes personnel from the Medical Corps, the Home Front Command, and air defence.
