Hostage Crisis Unfolds: Israel’s Desperate Wait And Retaliatory Strikes In Gaza

Thursday, Israeli forces attacked targets in the south, north, and center of Gaza. They did this before Hamas was supposed to make an announcement about the fate of the three Israelis held hostage by the Palestinian terrorist group that was shown in a video over the weekend.

A house in Gaza City in the north was hit by an Israeli bomb overnight, killing 12 and hurting others, according to health officials. Israeli tanks also shelled the main city in the south, Khan Younis, sending smoke into the air.

The Palestinian Press Agency SAFA, which is connected to Hamas, said that Hamas fighters and Israeli forces were fighting very hard in Khan Younis. They also said that Israeli tanks were firing near the Al-Bureij and Al-Maghazi refugee camps in central Gaza.

A photographer from the Al-Nusseirat refugee camp named Doaa El-Baz showed video of the street where she used to live. “This whole neighborhood is gutted.” She stood in front of the wreckage and said, “Not a single house has been spared.”

Residents said that communication across the narrow seaside Gaza Strip stayed cut off for a fourth day in a row. In a statement, the Israeli military said it had crashed an airplane into a vehicle carrying weapons in Khan Younis and killed two Palestinian soldiers inside. The military also said it had raided a Hamas command center in the city and destroyed two arms caches.
