Thursday, an Indian Air Force (IAF) Kiran trainer plane crashed in an open field in a village in the district. The two pilots jumped out of the plane before it fell, so they were safe.
The plane crashed this morning at Bhogapura village. It had taken off from the air force station in Bengaluru.
A villager said it was lucky that the plane crashed on empty land and not in the nearby village. If the plane had hit the village, it would have been a disaster, the person said.
District officials said that Tejpal and Bhumika, the pilots’ only names, had slight injuries. There were no recorded deaths.
The IAF says that the event happened while the pilots were on a normal training flight. The cause of the accident will be found out by a court of inquiry.
“Today, a Kiran trainer plane from the Indian Air Force crashed near Chamrajnagar, Karnataka, while it was on a normal training flight.” Both pilots were able to eject safely. “A Court of Inquiry has been asked to find out what happened,” the IAF wrote.
Along with the fire and rescue services workers, a team from the IAF also arrived at the scene.
As soon as the plane crashed and made a loud noise, people ran to the scene. When they got there, they saw the wrecked plane covered in flames and smoke.
Not only did they call the local police and fire department, but they also ran to where the two pilots were seen jumping out of the plane and landing with the help of a parachute.
The two pilots were seen lying on the ground by people in the village. They made a portable shed for them right away.
Police officers rushed to the scene, put up a makeshift tent for the hurt pilots, and cordoned off the area.
The district officers then told the IAF leaders in Bengaluru, who sent a special helicopter to the scene to pick up the two injured pilots.
Katyayani Devi, who is the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the District, said that one of the pilots hurt her back and the other hurt her mouth.
“The two pilots were taken to Bengaluru by helicopter from the IAF,” she said.
Rame Gowda, who is in charge of Panchayat Development, said he was in the office when he heard a blast.
“When I heard the noise, I went outside to see what was going on. I heard that an IAF plane had gone down. I ran to the scene and saw that the crashed plane was on fire. Gowda told reporters, “I told the police and the fire and emergency services department about what happened.”
According to the Chief Fire Officer of Mysuru, P S Jayaramaiah, a senior fire brigade officer, a man named Mahesh Prithvi told them about the crash at 12:05 p.m., and several teams went to the scene right away.
An onlooker said that when they tried to help the pilots, they told them they had already told the IAF station and given them the GPS coordinates of the crash site.
Two days ago, a Redbird Training Aircraft had to make an emergency stop in a farm field after taking off from Sambra Airport in Belagavi. The pilots were hurt, but not too badly.
