First Batch of BrahMos Missiles from Lucknow Set to Be Launched This Saturday

India’s indigenous missile production gets a major boost with Lucknow facility ready for operational launch

Lucknow is preparing to witness a landmark moment in India’s defence manufacturing as the first batch of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, produced at the city’s newly established facility, is set to be launched this Saturday, October 18. The event will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The state-of-the-art facility, spread over 80 hectares in Bhatgaon, is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. Constructed with a focus on modern production technology and rigorous quality control, the plant is capable of producing around 80 to 100 BrahMos missiles annually, with plans to further increase production to meet future defence requirements.

BrahMos, a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, is one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world, capable of reaching speeds of nearly Mach 3. Its versatile design allows launches from land, sea, and air, making it a critical asset for India’s strategic defence. The missile also features precision targeting and radar-evading capabilities, ensuring operational effectiveness.

Officials say the Lucknow facility is not only a major step toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing but will also generate significant employment and strengthen local industries under the Make in India initiative. The launch of this first batch signals the start of sustained domestic production and enhances India’s military readiness.
