The Indian Air Force will be able to do its job better because the defense ministry signed two contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) worth more than Rs 3,700 crore. The IAF will get Medium Power Radars (MPR) “Arudhra” under the first contract, which is worth more than Rs 2,800 crore. The second contract is for “Radar Warning Receivers,” which will cost a total of about Rs 950 crore.
Both projects fall under the Buy “Indian – IDMM” (Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) category, so the agreement helped Aatmanirbhar Bharat reach its goals. Also, the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) designed and made the radar, which will be made by a company.
The Indian Air Force has already tested it and found that it works well. The RWR has also been made to improve the abilities of Su-30 MKI planes.
Aside from Radar Warning Receivers, the projects aim to improve the air force’s capabilities for surveillance, detection, tracking, and Electronic Warfare. They also want to give the manufacturing ecosystem a boost. Over the course of three and a half years, both projects are expected to create about 200,000 man-days of work.
