The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is preparing for a major transformation of its internal digital infrastructure after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital India Corporation (DIC). The partnership aims to modernise the force’s existing IT systems, strengthen cybersecurity and make administrative services more efficient for its personnel across the country.
The agreement establishes a two-year phased modernisation programme under which more than 40 digital modules currently used by the CISF will be integrated into a unified and secure technological framework. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 2.2 lakh personnel by providing easier access to administrative and welfare-related services through a common digital platform.
Digital India Corporation, which operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), will support the project as the strategic technology partner, advisory agency and programme management support partner. The MoU was signed by Sonia Narang, Inspector General (Technical and Provisioning) of the CISF, and Debabrata Nayak, Chief Technology Officer of DIC. The signing ceremony was attended by CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan and DIC Managing Director and CEO Akhil Kumar.
The modernisation process will begin with a three-month assessment of the force’s existing IT infrastructure. Following this review, the two organisations will undertake the phased integration and improvement of the digital systems. The primary objective is to eliminate data duplication, simplify administrative procedures and introduce a more connected digital environment. The upgraded framework is expected to offer a unified interface, automated notifications and real-time tracking of personnel requests. The CISF has also indicated that its existing digital services will continue operating during the transition.
Over the years, the CISF has developed several in-house digital platforms to manage important administrative functions, including salary processing, training, inventory management and operational activities. These systems have significantly reduced dependence on traditional paperwork and improved access to services for personnel posted at different locations.
Among the existing platforms, the e-Grievance portal has recorded 55,046 grievances, of which 53,043 have been resolved. The force’s Leave Management System has also handled more than 95 lakh transactions, demonstrating the extensive use of digital services within the organisation.
Other platforms include the e-Service Book portal, which allows personnel to access and verify their service records online, and the e-Anurodh platform, through which employees can submit requests relating to leave, weekly offs and duty changes across approximately 40–50 categories using their mobile phones. The CISF also operates dedicated digital services for Ayushman healthcare access, mess feedback, welfare loans and scholarships offered by the Director General.
Cybersecurity and data protection will remain central to the proposed upgrade, considering the sensitive operational and personnel information managed by the force. Under the partnership, DIC will provide technical expertise to strengthen the existing security framework. However, the CISF will retain complete ownership and control of its data, while its internal technical teams will carry out the implementation with guidance, mentoring and knowledge transfer from DIC.
The integrated system is also expected to improve decision-making at senior administrative levels. Role-based dashboards will provide authorised officers with access to updated information, helping them monitor activities and make more informed decisions concerning manpower deployment, training requirements and resource allocation. This approach is expected to reduce manual reporting and improve coordination across different units.
The partnership comes as the CISF continues to strengthen its organisational capabilities and technological infrastructure. The force is responsible for protecting several strategically important installations across India, including airports, metro networks, seaports, Parliament and major industrial facilities. As its responsibilities continue to evolve, efficient digital administration and secure information management are becoming increasingly important.
Through its collaboration with Digital India Corporation, the CISF aims to move beyond separate digital applications towards a more integrated and secure IT ecosystem. The two-year initiative is expected to improve administrative transparency, simplify personnel services and strengthen the force’s long-term technological capabilities while supporting the broader Digital India vision.
