China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, has called for translating bilateral consensus into concrete actions to strengthen ties between New Delhi and Beijing, according to official statements. The envoy also expressed support for India’s chairship of BRICS, the five-nation bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The remarks come as India and China continue diplomatic engagement despite ongoing differences along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both countries have maintained institutional channels for dialogue while working to preserve stability in bilateral relations.
India’s leadership of BRICS underscores New Delhi’s role in global multilateral forums. The bloc represents more than 40 percent of the world’s population and has emerged as an important platform for cooperation among major emerging economies. China’s support for India’s chairship reflects an effort to sustain engagement on broader economic and geopolitical issues while managing bilateral differences.
The Indian government has consistently maintained that, despite defence and security challenges, bilateral relations with China also include trade, cultural exchanges, and cooperation in multilateral forums. China remains one of India’s largest trading partners, highlighting the significance of economic engagement between the two countries.
At the defence and military level, India and China have established mechanisms including military-to-military dialogue, Border Personnel Meeting protocols, and communication channels between field commanders to help prevent misunderstandings and maintain stability along the border.
India’s defence modernisation efforts continue to focus on self-reliance in critical technologies and stronger strategic partnerships with countries such as Japan, Australia, and the United States through platforms like the Quad. At the same time, New Delhi continues diplomatic engagement with Beijing on areas of mutual interest.
The BRICS platform enables India and China to cooperate on issues such as economic development, infrastructure financing, and climate change while managing broader strategic competition. Ambassador Xu’s remarks highlight Beijing’s interest in ensuring that bilateral differences do not overshadow cooperation within multilateral institutions where both countries share common objectives.
