Akash-NG Missile Was Successfully Test Fired From The Firing Range At Pokhran Field.

According to the Times of India, the Indian Army and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully launched the new version of Akash missile from the Pokhran Field Firing range in Jaisalmer district on Tuesday.

A big mobility truck was used to fire the improved Army version missile. The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army will utilise the new generation missile to intercept high-manoeuvrability aerial threats. The missile will strengthen the Indian Army’s artillery.

“The surface-to-air missile was fired on Tuesday,” an official source claimed. The Indian Army and Air Force will utilise the Akash-NG (New-Generation) missile to intercept high-manoeuvring low radar cross-section aerial threats.

With textbook precision, the missile intercepted the target. By conducting high movements throughout the trajectory, the launch met all of the test objectives. The missile has the ability to engage several targets simultaneously. The missile has a 40-kilometer intercept range, and the missile guidance system, as well as the fire control system, are now more accurate.

“The performance of the missile’s command and control system, on-board avionics, and aerodynamic configuration was successfully validated during the trial,” a defence source said. Several range equipment, such as radar, EOTS, and telemetry systems, were employed to track the missile’s full route during the test launch.”

The whole flight path of the missile was observed throughout the test launch, according to the source, and the flight data was acquired by multiple range devices. The capacity of the multi-function radar to integrate with the system was examined. The missile’s range is between 1.8 and 2.5 Mach. The missile could be launched from stationary tanks or from moving surface-to-surface warships and vehicles.

“The Akash-NG system has been built with superior deployability than other similar systems,” a source added. The missile was designed completely by the DRDO and is manufactured by Bharat Electronics Ltd, a defence PSU (BEL). A joint team from the DRDO and the Indian Army carried out the test launch.”
