Afghanistan has urged India to further strengthen bilateral engagement, with Kabul placing emphasis on political trust, economic cooperation and continued diplomatic dialogue. The appeal was made as both sides have seen increased official interaction in recent months.
Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, Afghanistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi, made the remarks at a reception organised by the Afghan Embassy to mark the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power. He said closer cooperation between Afghanistan and India could benefit both countries while also contributing to regional stability, connectivity and shared prosperity.
Noor highlighted what he described as progress in bilateral relations, pointing to more active diplomatic contacts, increased engagement by embassies and consulates, and continued exchanges of high-level delegations. He called for this momentum to be used to further develop political and economic cooperation.
The Afghan representative also referred to the recent visit of Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister to India, saying the engagement helped build understanding in political, economic and humanitarian areas. He indicated that the discussions had created a foundation for expanding cooperation between Kabul and New Delhi.
Afghanistan also sees its longstanding links with India as an important basis for future cooperation. Noor highlighted historical connections involving trade, transit, culture, sports and the exchange of knowledge, while stressing the potential of stronger ties to support wider regional connectivity.
The event was attended by Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary in the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Diplomats and representatives from several countries were also present at the New Delhi reception.
India has continued to maintain practical diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan while taking a cautious approach toward the Taliban administration. The latest developments indicate growing attention to areas of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, connectivity and regional stability.
For Kabul, closer relations with New Delhi could provide opportunities to expand economic links and strengthen Afghanistan’s position in regional connectivity networks. For India, sustained engagement with Afghanistan remains significant from both strategic and regional perspectives.
The latest appeal from Afghanistan underscores the growing importance of India-Afghanistan engagement as both sides seek to maintain dialogue and explore avenues for broader cooperation.
