Army’s Eastern Command Prepares For Celebrations Of Vijay Diwas In Kolkata

Andalib Elias, the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, said on Tuesday that the government will continue to help the families of Indian soldiers who died while freeing the country in 1971.

Elias was at Fort William, where the Indian Army’s Eastern Command is based, for a preview of the Vijay Diwas celebrations that were coming up.

The Indian Army celebrates Vijay Diwas every year to remember the time in 1971 when it beat Pakistan and freed Bangladesh.

“When our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to Delhi in September 2021, she gave scholarships to the children of 100 Indian Army soldiers who died in 1971 during our War of Independence. We will keep going with this plan.

“This doesn’t mean they don’t have enough or that the Indian government doesn’t help them. We just want to show our appreciation. They are the children and grandchildren of the Indian soldiers who died for us. “In the days to come, we will continue to honour the brave men in this way,” Elias said.

Elias just took over in Kolkata, and this was his first time in Fort William. He understood that the younger people in both countries need to know what happened in 1971 and how Bangladesh came to be.

College Street in Kolkata is hosting a Bangladeshi book fair, and Elias has made sure that there are enough books for young people to be interested. He has also told people to put on musical events in the evening for college students from nearby schools.

“We know that the attention span of people today is shorter. We made some comic books about the Liberation War of Bangladesh that show the role of the Indian “Mitra Bahini.” We did this to get their attention. We’re going to give a lot of these comic books to kids in India and Bangladesh. “We also want more young people to take part in the events that will start on December 15 at the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata,” Elias said.

During this year’s Vijay Diwas celebrations in Kolkata, the Eastern Command of the Indian Army will host 60 “Mukti Joddhas” from Bangladesh and six military officers from the country next door.

The Eastern Command’s Major General D.S. Kushwah said that the celebrations would include meetings between Mukti Joddhas and Indian Army veterans who served during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, among other things.

“I graduated from the National Defense College in Mirpur, Bangladesh, and I have fond memories of my year in the country next door. We have strong ties to Bangladesh. The Prime Ministers of the two countries get along very well, and problems between them, like where the land and sea borders are, are settled in a friendly way, Kushwah said.

Elias said that Bangladesh would always be grateful to India for the help it gave during the Liberation War.

“This month, both of our countries will win. Blood and sweat have never brought two countries together in this way anywhere else in the world. This strong bond between our two countries will last. Both the Indian Prime Minister and President visited Bangladesh in 2021. It was the first time that both the Prime Minister and the President of India went to the same country in the same year. “This is how close we are as friends,” he said.
