Britain said on Thursday that it would send 600 Brimstone missiles to war-torn Ukraine to help it fight against Russian forces.
Ben Wallace, the British minister of defence, made the announcement after attending a meeting with donors at Estonia’s Tapa military base with several of his counterparts.
“Today, I can tell you that we’re also going to send another 600 Brimstone missiles into theatre,” he told reporters. “These will be very important in helping Ukraine take control of the battlefield.”
Britain made this promise just a few days after it was the first Western country to give Ukraine the heavy tanks it had asked for.
Wallace and his Estonian counterpart, Hanno Pevkur, started the donor meeting in Tapa. Several Ukraine allies were represented at the meeting.
After the talks, on Friday, about 50 countries will meet at the US-run Ramstein military base in Germany to talk about sending military aid to Ukraine. The meeting was called by the US.
Wallace said in Estonia, “We are here today and will be in Ramstein tomorrow to make it clear to (Russian) President Vladimir Putin that we will continue to donate, train, and support Ukraine.”
“Because President Putin is wrong if he thinks we will get bored this year. We will make plans for this year, next year, the year after that, and even further in the future “he added.
Wallace also said Russia should get out of Ukraine.
“In 2023, it will be time to turn the Ukrainians’ progress in pushing Russia back into real gains and make sure Russia knows that the goal now is to push them back out of Ukraine and restore Ukraine’s sovereignty,” he said.
