Officials who know about the situation say that armed smugglers from Bangladesh took a BSF jawan’s guns and radio set in Tripura on Sunday afternoon and then tried to kidnap him and take him to Bangladesh.
Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) held a commandant-level flag meeting on Sunday evening. The guns and radio were returned during this meeting.
A BSF source who knew about the situation said, “BSF Constable Bhole was on outpost duty at the Indo-Bangladesh Border fence gate No. 196 in the area of 150 Bn BSF border outpost Kalamchera and was supposed to operate the fence gate.” A big group of Bangladeshi criminals crossed the international border without permission around 1:30 p.m. and gathered near the fencing gate with the plan to sneak sugar across. On top of that, they started using bad language and making rude gestures and comments to the BSF officer who was on duty.
Constable Bhole to get rid of the troublemakers and stop people from sneaking goods past the fence through the gate.
In a statement, the BSF said that the smugglers from Bangladesh beat up officer Bhole and tried to drag him to the side of Bangladesh.
As they tried to take him away, they also stole his personal weapon and radio.
“Constable Bhole was attacked with bamboo sticks and an iron rod, but he was able to escape,” a BSF spokesman said. “He was seriously hurt.” The BSF also held a commandant-level flag meeting with the counterpart and filed a strong protest.”
The spokesman said, “During the flag meeting, the BGB gave back to the BSF the stolen weapon and radio set.”
