Soldier Injured In Landmine Blast Near LoC In J&K’s Poonch

On Monday, July 10, an Army member was hurt when a landmine exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. The landmine went off when the soldier accidentally stepped on it while patrolling in a forward town in Kerni sector late Sunday night, officials said. The soldier was hurt.

They said the injured was shifted to a military hospital and his situation was stated to be “stable”.

As part of a system to stop infiltration, the forward areas are full of landmines, which sometimes get washed away by rain and cause mistakes like this, the officials said.

Between Friday, July 7, and Sunday, July 9, Poonch and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir were hit by heavy rains. Two Army soldiers died when they were taken away while crossing a stream in the Poshana area of Surankote on Saturday, July 8.

Due to the bad weather, the watch along the Line of Control and International Border was tightened to stop any terrorists from across the border from getting in.

On Monday morning, the Army and police started a joint search operation in Gursai top, Shahshidhar, and the places around them in Mendhar sector.

Late Sunday night, searches were also done in the villages of Noorkote and Nakerkote, which are near the border fence. These villages are in the area of the Poonch police station. Officials said that no one was caught during the raid, which lasted several hours.
