At a presentation in New Delhi on Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh handed over technology documentation for the DRDO-developed Counter Drone System to Indian business, including companies such as Adani Defence Systems, Larsen & Toubro, and Astra Microwave.
ICOMM Tele Ltd and Electronics Corporation of India Limited are among the others (ECIL). DRDO stated that the handover to Indian industry took place in the presence of Union and state defence ministers, as well as other dignitaries, at an event held at DRDO Bhawan.
Using various sensors, the Counter Drone System may detect, track, and identify aerial drones, send the information to linked systems, and enable counter tactics to prevent them from carrying out their intended mission (soft kill) and/or destroy them (hard kill).
Drone detection is accomplished using radars and an RF-based detecting technology. The Electro Optic sensor and COMINT are used to identify the object. Soft kills are carried out using RF jamming and anti-GNSS technology, while hard kills are carried out using Laser Directed Energy Weapons. Small Hybrid UAVs, Micro UAV/Multirotor, and Nano UAVs are among the drones that the system can detect, identify, and neutralise.
The transfer took happened as Singh announced the third positive list of defence equipment indigenization.
The third list, according to the Ministry of Defence, builds on the first list, which included 101 things, and the second list, which included 108 items and was issued on August 21, 2020 and May 31, 2021, respectively. The 155mm/39 Cal Ultra-Light Howitzer, Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-IA – Enhanced Indigenised Content, conventional submarines, and communication satellites GSAT-7C are among the important items on the first list.
During 100 items will be on the third list, including complicated equipment and systems that are being developed and are anticipated to result in solid orders over the next five years. According to the Defence Ministry, orders worth more than Rs 2,10,000 crore are projected to be placed on the Industry in the next five years as part of the goods mentioned in the third list.
Over 300 sophisticated products will be covered by the notification, ranging from intricate armament systems to crucial platforms like armoured vehicles, combat planes, submarines, and so on.
The Armed Forces have inked contracts for 31 projects for Rs 53,839 crore since the first and second lists were announced. Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) have been granted for 83 projects totaling Rs 1,77,258 crore. In addition, in the next five to seven years, cases worth Rs 2,93,741 crore will be processed.
The third list’s notification will provide international-standard equipment to suit the demand of the Armed Forces.
