In a recent release, the Indian Air Force said that it wants to buy around 100 more LCA Mark 1A fighter jets made in India. This is good news for the country’s aerospace industry.
Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, the head of the Indian Air Force, where he was getting the first C-295 passenger plane.
Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari at the Airbus aircraft factory, “The LCA was built from the ground up to replace the large fleet of MiG series aircraft, such as the MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-27.” Since all of these planes are being phased out, it is important that we have enough LCA class planes in our fleet. So, in addition to the 83 LCA Mark 1A planes we have already ordered, we are putting together a case for about 100 more.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) wants to replace the MiG-series fighter jets in its force with these Indian-made planes. The plans have been sent to the Defense Ministry and to everyone else in the national security system who has a stake in the matter.
Last month, the head of the Indian Air Force met with everyone involved in the scheme to make their own fighter jets, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. At that time, it was decided that about 100 more of these planes would be bought.
The order would mean that a very large number of LCA Tejas fighters would be sent to the Indian Air Force. In the next 15 years, the IAF will have 40 LCA, more than 180 LCA Mark-1A, and at least 120 LCA Mark-2 planes.
The last order for LCA Mark1A was for 83 planes, and the first plane would be delivered around February 2024. Tejas airplanes have been updated to become LCA Mark 1A. The electronics and radars on the LCA Mark 1A are more advanced than those on the first 40 LCAs that were given to the Air Force.
The amount of local stuff in the new LCA Mark 1A will be more than 65%. At a design review meeting last month, the head of the Indian Air Force said that the LCA was the best example of how hard the force had worked to make its aircraft line more India`n.
Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India enterprise of the country came before the program. More importantly, it shows India’s independence in the aircraft industry.
