Explosions were heard in the early hours of Thursday morning in Kyiv and other places in Ukraine, according to officials and the media. Some local officials said that anti-aircraft defenses were in use.
Since October of last year, Russia has regularly bombed Ukraine, hitting a wide range of targets. The latest explosions happened less than 24 hours after Kyiv said that a Russian attack on the city of Kherson killed 21 people.
The military administration for the area around Kiev said on Telegram that air defenses are working. Reuters reporters in the city heard at least one loud explosion.
The Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne said that there were explosions in the city of Zaporizhzhia, which is in the south. Yuri Malashko, who is in charge of the military in the Zaporizhzhia area, said on Telegram that anti-aircraft defenses were being used.
Local media also reported explosions in the port city of Odesa on the Black Sea. A government map shows that air alerts have been set off in most of the eastern half of the country.
