The Israeli attack of Gaza has destroyed decades of work to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians and has set “the whole region on fire,” Jordan’s foreign minister on Thursday.
“Israel is not producing security for itself by the killing of innocent Palestinians,” Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Foreign Minister, “It’s putting the whole region on fire again, and it has destroyed the hard work that many had made over the decades to make sure that we come to a peaceful conclusion to this conflict.”
He also said that Israel’s war against Hamas had “killed any embrace of peace in the region” and had set back relations in the area by more than 30 years.
People in Jordan “don’t see any value” in dealing with Israel while its ground attack in Gaza goes on, Safadi said. That’s why the talks between the Jordanian government and Israel about trading solar power for energy have stopped.
Israel said it had proof that Hamas had a “command node” under the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. He said this was “just ridiculous” and a “insult to intelligence.”
He also didn’t agree with Israel’s claim that its actions in Gaza were necessary for self-defense.
Safadi said, “This is not self-defense. Any other country in the world that would have done even a small part of what Israel is doing would be under sanctions by now.” This is raw, disgusting revenge, and everyone in the world needs to stop it.
At the same time, the US was very worried on Thursday that shelling near a field hospital in Gaza hurt some Jordanian doctors.
“Afraid that an attack outside the Jordanian Field Hospital in Gaza hurt Jordanian medical staff.” Mathew Miller, a spokesman for the US State Department, wrote on X, “We urge the protection of civilians who are providing critical support to Palestinians and thank Jordan for its ongoing work to provide humanitarian aid in Gaza.”
