From October 26 to 30, the Indian Navy will host the 29th Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) at Visakhapatnam, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
It said that the exercise shows how both countries are committed to and help improve maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
SIMBEX-2022 will be held in two parts: the Harbour Phase, which will take place in Visakhapatnam from October 26 to October 27, 2022, and the Sea Phase, which will take place in the Bay of Bengal from October 28 to October 30, 2022.
The RSS Stalwart is a frigate from the formidable class, and the RSS Vigilance is a missile corvette from the victory class.
“On October 25, 2022, RSS Stalwart, a Formidable Class Frigate, and RSS Vigilance, a Victory Class Corvette, from the Republic of Singapore Navy arrived at Visakhapatnam to take part in the exercise,” the ministry said.
On October 25, 2022, Vice Admiral Biswajeet Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, met with Rear Admiral Sean Wat Jianwen, Fleet Commander of the Republic of Singapore Navy. During the meetings, people talked about things that both groups cared about.
During the Harbour Phase, the two navies had a lot of professional and fun interactions, such as cross-deck visits, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE), and planning meetings.
The SIMBEX set of exercises started in 1994. At first, they were called Exercise Lion King. Over the past 20 years, the size and scope of the exercise have grown a lot. It now includes advanced naval drills that cover a wide range of maritime operations.
From September 2 to 4, 2021, SIMBEX was held. Its main goal is to make it easier for India and Singapore to work together on the sea.
Both navies also have a representative in the other’s maritime information fusion centre and have signed an agreement to help each other with submarine rescues and work together.
