Indian Army Reviews Frontline Equipment and Engineering Support Along LAC

The Indian Army is placing greater emphasis on the technical support that keeps frontline formations operational along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). During a recent visit to the Fire and Fury Corps area, Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni, Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DG EME) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME, reviewed the condition and preparedness of equipment being used by troops deployed in forward areas.

The assessment covered a range of military systems, including Next-Generation Vehicles, specialised equipment and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Lt Gen Sahni also reviewed maintenance and repair facilities responsible for supporting equipment in the demanding high-altitude environment.

For troops operating in mountainous border areas, maintaining equipment availability can be particularly challenging because of difficult terrain and harsh climatic conditions. Effective engineering support helps ensure that vehicles, weapons and other specialised systems remain serviceable and available when required.

The visit also included interaction with personnel of the Corps of EME. The technical teams supporting forward formations were encouraged to maintain high standards of professional expertise and operational preparedness while developing solutions suited to the specific requirements of high-altitude deployments.

The Army’s focus on technical readiness comes as frontline formations increasingly operate with a mix of conventional platforms, specialised equipment and unmanned systems. Maintaining these systems requires trained technical personnel, responsive repair infrastructure and continuous attention to equipment reliability.

The review therefore highlights the important role played by the Corps of EME in supporting Indian Army formations deployed along the LAC. Beyond the deployment of military platforms, sustained technical and engineering support remains essential to keeping frontline capabilities operational in demanding conditions.
