The Defense Ministry said that chefs are being trained centrally to make healthy, tasty, and healthy millet dishes for soldiers.
The Indian Army wants to buy millets flour to make up up to 25% of the allowed amount of cereals in rations for troops starting in 2023-2024. The defence ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that millets flour should be used a lot in organised events, canteens, and home cooking to improve the nutritional profile of a soldier’s diet.
It also said that chefs are being trained centrally so they can make healthy, tasty, and healthy millet dishes for soldiers.
The Army said that adding millet to the daily meals of soldiers of all ranks will help reduce diseases caused by hard living.
The move is part of the government’s focus on millets, which many people think are a superfood, and comes during the International Year of Millets.
As part of the whole campaign, special areas are also being set up in shopping centres, and “Know your millet” campaigns are also being held in schools.
