The Indian Army’s Regiment of Artillery has launched a special motorcycle expedition from Drass to commemorate the 27th anniversary of Operation Vijay and pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who fought during the 1999 Kargil War. The expedition was flagged off from the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, a site that holds immense significance in India’s military history.

The motorcycle expedition features 20 riders selected from artillery units that participated in the Kargil conflict. During the journey, the team will travel through important battlefields, gun areas and frontier valleys of Ladakh associated with Operation Vijay, remembering the courage of Indian soldiers who displayed exceptional valour in challenging high-altitude conditions.

The flag-off ceremony witnessed the presence of senior Army officials, local administration representatives, NCC cadets, personnel and residents of Drass. The event highlighted the strong connection between the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh while honouring the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

The expedition is being conducted under the leadership of Major General Arvind Yadav, VSM, Additional Director General and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery. The riders will visit locations linked with the historic battles of Operation Vijay and interact with communities across Ladakh during their journey.

The initiative also marks the rich heritage and long-standing traditions of the Regiment of Artillery, which continues to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. The expedition carries forward the regiment’s motto “Sarvatra Izzat-O-Iqbal” while remembering the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

The motorcycle expedition will continue its route across Ladakh and is scheduled to conclude on August 14 with a flag-in ceremony. The event will serve as a tribute to Kargil War heroes and a reminder of the courage, commitment and resilience displayed by Indian troops in protecting the nation’s sovereignty.
