India is one of 104 countries invited to the world’s largest naval defence trade show, which will be held in Paris from November 4 to 7.
This year’s shows will focus on innovative solutions to protect naval forces and maritime infrastructure from air and surface drones, next-generation anti-ship missiles, missile systems capable of destroying multiple hostile drones, and many other cutting-edge features to strengthen naval forces around the world.
The event, which focuses on innovation, sovereignty, and international cooperation, will bring together key players in the naval industry, such as shipbuilders, equipment manufacturers, institutions, and experts. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about the latest technological developments that will shape the navies of the future.
Euronaval 2024 will address strategic and industrial challenges in the context of rising maritime security challenges and unprecedented technological competition. The exhibition will feature debates and conferences on topics such as innovation, resilience, and sustainability.
A media tour was organized prior to the show’s official launch. A senior officer in the French Navy stated that the conflict in Ukraine demonstrated the importance of maritime capabilities, with Ukraine successfully defending its coast against Russian ships using unmanned surface vehicles (USVs).
Modern conflicts can quickly escalate from localized skirmishes to large-scale regional conflicts, emphasizing the importance of adaptable and versatile maritime forces. He emphasized the need for agility in defense capabilities. The navy must be able to quickly switch between various missions, ranging from humanitarian aid to intense combat. Western defense systems are expensive and sophisticated, whereas adversaries use less expensive but more effective threats.
The Red Sea and Ukraine conflicts have highlighted this disparity. “Information is critical in modern conflicts. Flexibility and adaptability are critical for securing high-value assets. Technical innovation and strategic shifts are required for success. Information superiority, as demonstrated in the Ukraine war, is critical in modern conflicts,” the officer concluded.
